the largest of the Sporades island chain and offers some of the best
sandy beaches in Greece. The island of Skiathos has always been very
popular for holidays from the beginning of tourism in Greece, in the
1960's.The rich and famous were the first holiday visitors to the island
mainly because of its superb beaches and picturesque Skiathos Town with
its red tiled roof buildings and its maze of cobbled streets. These
were followed by more holiday makers, especially since the introduction

Skiathos island for its golden sandy beaches and the nightlife, this
is not taking away from the fact that the island of Skiathos is also
an ideal and popular family holiday destination. Getting around Skiathos island is very easy. Skiathos is a small island and apart from hiring a car, there is an excellent public transport system, that runs until early morning hours in the summer. Boats leaving from Skathos Town harbor can take the visitor on to various beaches around the island. Getting to Skiathos island, apart from the many inexpensive daily flights from Athens and the numerous international flights, there also boat connections from Volos, Salonika and aghios Konstantinos. From Skiathos islands one can easily visit the nearby islands of Alonissos and Skopelos. |
