Greece: Athens and the Greek islands, useful travel links and tools
The original GreeceAD.com kept a short page of useful travel links and tools for anyone planning a trip to Greece (summer 2003 edition). It recommended a handful of sources, each for a clear reason.
What the page listed
- Greek National Tourist Organisation (travel guide). Described as the official guide to Greece: general information, transportation, ferry and air information, events, attractions, museums and activities.
- Greek Ministry of Culture. The official site for Greek history and culture: museums, monuments, archaeological sites and cultural events.
- Greek embassies and consulates abroad, for visa and passport questions.
- Weather in Greece today, with a box to enter a city or island.
- Discounted flights, a promotion for scheduled airlines (no charters) from the main USA gateways.
- Professional photography of Greece by Andrea Pistolesi, a travel photographer born in Florence in 1957. The page recommended his online studio because, in its words, the photographs promote Greece in its best light, just as the agency tried to do.
Checking things today
Official sites move and change address, so look for the current page of each body rather than relying on an old link. For the weather, pick the island and the month first: the Island Month Dial shows the usual conditions by month for the main island groups. For ferries, flights and entry rules, always confirm on the official site of the operator or the authority.
Plan your stay today
This page is kept as an archive of the original GreeceAD.com site. For current places to stay, use the independent directory: all stays, regions, islands, or ask for a stay. GreeceAD is an independent, unofficial directory and does not take bookings itself.
