HOW THIS DIRECTORY IS MADE
Sources & methods
Where the data comes from (OpenStreetMap, ODbL), when it was extracted, how it was cleaned, and what the directory does not claim.
Independent and unofficial directory.
greecead is an independent, unofficial directory. It is not affiliated with the Greek National Tourism Organisation, any ministry, or any booking platform. It lists what open data says exists; it does not rate, rank or sell anything.
Where the data comes from
Every stay comes from OpenStreetMap, extracted on 25 October 2026 with the Overpass API: all objects in Greece tagged tourism=hotel, guest_house, hostel, apartment, motel, chalet or camp_site.
The data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). This directory is a derived database and is shared on the same terms: please keep the attribution “© OpenStreetMap contributors” if you reuse it.
How it was cleaned
- 15,639 objects came out of the extraction; 1,933 had no name and were set aside.
- Of the 13,706 named objects, 3,332 carry an explicit address (a street or a town in OpenStreetMap, or a town deduced from a neighbour within 3 km) and get their own page. The others are only counted.
- Names: the English name when one exists, otherwise the name transliterated into Latin letters; the Greek name is kept alongside.
- Phone numbers: Greek mobile numbers (+30 6…) were removed because they may be personal. No e-mail address is stored. Links to map services, messaging apps, social networks and booking platforms were dropped.
- Regions: each point is placed in one of the 13 regions (OpenStreetMap boundaries, admin level 5). Towns with fewer than three charted stays keep a page but are hidden from search engines.

What we do not claim
No ratings, reviews, prices or availability are shown, because none exists in the source. A listing can be wrong, closed or out of date: check with the property. Climate figures on the Island Month Dial come from published normals cited on that page.
Who writes
The travel journal is written by our editors. The directory itself is built from data, not written by hand.
